History

In January 2009, Lisa Eaton founded the “Calendar of French Events in Fort Collins” group on Meetup.com to list French-related activities in the area.

In May 2011, Colleen Thompson joined the group and hosted weekly intermediate French conversation sessions until she graduated from veterinary school in May 2013.

From 2011 to 2022, Lili Francuz organized a monthly French Film and Culture Club, which was hosted at various members’ homes in Fort Collins and the surrounding areas. In 2023, Taylor Eastin started a similar group called Apéros and Conversation, meeting monthly in restaurants.

In June 2013, Felix Wong, who had joined the Meetup group shortly after Colleen, became the principal organizer. Even after moving to Spain in 2021, he continued to manage the group remotely.

In June 2024, Felix transitioned the Meetup group to this website and a Facebook group to make it free for all participants.

Other key organizers over the years have included Erin Gathright, Kingsya Omega, Matt Hannifin, and Shelley Busch, among others. Colorado State University’s Cercle Français has also hosted numerous events open to the northern Colorado community.

Thanks to all the organizers and participants of Fort Collins French!
